What are these eco-labels?
This initiative led by the French Ministry for the Ecological Transition, applied to the hospitality sector, informs travellers about their environmental impact during their stay.
Hotels that choose to take part are given a rating from A to E based on 4 indicators:
- Impact on the climate
- Consumption of non-renewable energy
- Water-consumption
- Proportion of organic and/or eco-labelled products used
The èhôtels-Lyon group undertook in 2019 to assess the environmental footprint of its hotels in light of measures it had already carried out and to reduce its ecological impact.
With the support of Betterfly Tourism, which supports tourism industry players in becoming more eco-friendly, Collège Hotel and Fourvière Hotel were awarded the ratings B and C, respectively.
The official presentation of the eco-labels was attended by Gérald Chabert, Operations Manager of Groupe èhôtelsLyon, Hubert Vendeville, CEO of Betterfly Tourism, Jérôme d’Assigny, Regional Manager of the French Environment and Energy Management Agency, and Valérie Ducaud, Manager of the Lyon Convention Bureau.
The èhôtels-Lyon group’s action fits into the ambition of the metropolitan area and ONLYLYON Tourist Office and Convention Bureau to promote and implement responsible tourism. Carried by this momentum, Lyon was selected as the European Capital of Smart Tourism in 2019.
