In 2024, the third-largest French metropolis distinguished itself in various trusted rankings. Champion of business tourism, it was once again ranked as the second French destination and 30th worldwide for the organization of congresses, by the ICCA (International Congress & Convention Association). Furthermore, its commitment to responsible tourism earned it the 15th position globally in the GDS (Global Destination Sustainability Index) ranking.

Lyon in the list of unmissable European cities

Conde Nast Traveler, global travel reference, selected Lyon in its annual list of must-visit European cities for 2025, while World’s Best Cities ranked the Lumière brothers’ city as the third French destination, 80th worldwide. These distinctions coincide with the 25th anniversary of Lyon’s UNESCO World Heritage listing and the upcoming celebration in 2025 of the 130th anniversary of the first-ever film shot in Lyon (and in the world).

Lyon’s gastronomy also continues to shine

La Liste, which compiles the world’s best restaurants, included four Lyon-based establishments in its 2025 selection. But as Chef Paul Bocuse used to say, Lyon is above all about great products. By featuring Les Halles Paul Bocuse among the world’s best food markets, the Financial Times illustrates this famous principle while reinforcing Lyon’s status as the French capital of gastronomy

And what about the press office’s efforts?

In 2024, the team embarked on media tours in England, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Spain to meet with international media editors. These initiatives allowed them to meet and engage with more than 200 journalists, and later welcome 75 of them to Lyon. In France, the spokespersons from ONLYLYON Tourism and Conventions gave more than 60 interviews, securing a total of 440 articles mentioning the destination. This annual media review confirms the ongoing interest of both French and international media in Lyon.
